SUMMARY:IADE International Creative Week 2017
DESCRIPTION:The next International Week of IADE Creative University will take place in Lisbon between 13 and 17 of March 2017. \nThe theme will be: A Journey into Knowledge. \nFive hundred years ago\, Francisco was born in Lisbon\, son of a painter and illustrator\, António D’Hollanda\, a Dutch artist working in the Portuguese royal court. The name indicates his origin that may have bear a family name impossible to pronounce in Portuguese. Francisco enjoyed an education close to the Portuguese high aristocracy of the time. In 1533\, at the age of sixteen\, Francisco was sent to Italy with a generous scholarship to learn the emerging arts of late Renaissance\, from painting to fortress building. In Rome\, among others\, he met Michelangelo. In Venice met Sebastiano Serlio and received from him a copy of his architectural treatise. Back in Portugal he wrote a book “Da Pintura Antiga”\, a treatise on art introducing the new concept of Disegno and painted an Album “Das Antigualhas que vio Francisco D’ Ollanda em Italia” depicting buildings\, fortresses\, events\, paintings and sculptures studied during his travel. For all his live he assisted the King as a councilor and “art director”. Late in his life he wrote a small treatise on the Scientia do Desegno that may be regarded as the first vision of design as a science. In a way\, Francisco d’Hollanda\, was one of the first Erasmus academics\, sent of to another country in Europe to learn under a different environment and culture. Francisco’s early example stands for the idea of traveling as a learning experience that is now the body of all European exchange programs. So\, for 2017 IADE’s international week we invite you to… travel\, and reflect upon the idea of traveling both literal and metaphorically as a process of knowledge enhancement. We welcome your thoughts\, experience and projects under this idea of knowledge: JOURNEY. \nPlease contact maria.ana.paul@universidadeeuropeia.pt for more information
