London College of Communication’s Media School has a comprehensive portfolio that spans the disciplines of publishing, advertising, public relations, media communications, photography, and journalism.
BA (Hons) Advertising will help students to develop a solid understanding of advertising and marketing communications industries, and digital media practices in advertising, with a particular focus on creativity, critical analysis, research techniques, and the future of advertising. Students are given opportunities to develop your own strategic, innovative, ethical and sustainable advertising practice. The course focuses on teaching consumers from both behavioural and psychological perspectives, and focus on key aspects of advertising practices that will support our students to make well-informed tactical and strategic decisions in developing advertising campaigns. Our students acquire creative skills such as copywriting, video editing, and the application of digital technology as well as a knowledge of the theoretical and practical application of professional persuasive communication. With a digital-first approach, the course supports students to engage critically with the practices and evaluation of advertising and marketing communications in the digital environment.
There is a strong employability strand running through the course. As well as working on project briefs set by industry, the course gives our students the opportunity to meet industry speakers, guests and alumni.
Paul Springer
Paul is Dean of Academic Strategy for UAL: Camberwell, Chelsea & Wimbledon Schools of Art.. He is a Research Professor specialising in communications. He has authored three books on pioneering innovation in digital communications and was co-opted to CHEAD, the Council for Higher Education in Art & Design, as a communications expert in 2022.
Paul served as President of Edcom (the European Institute for Commercial Communications Education, centred in Brussels) between 2019-22 and remains actively committed to connecting Edcom’s 50 European member Higher Education Institutes with it’s counterpart organisation, the European Association of Communications Agencies on initiatives spanning work skills and inclusivity, equality and diversity. in and in 2023 was lead author for Edcom’s White Paper on future talent supplies the communications industries.
Paul was previously Director of the School of Communication and the Academy of Music & Theatre Arts at Falmouth University, contributed to the University’s award-winning start-up business incubator lab, Launchpad. Prior to this Paul was Associate Dean for External Development in the School of Arts and Digital Industries, University of East London, with special responsibility for commercial industry and education collaborations. Paul writes and speaks on innovation in digital communications, and has authored books on benchmarks of best practice and its impacts for education. He was lead consultant for Saudi Arabia’s first College of Advertising in Jeddah, and was Head of Research and Special Projects, Faculty of Design Media & Management at Bucks New University. He founded the research centre adCom and has lead sponsored research initiatives with ZEE TV, Rapp Communications and Tate & Lyle amongst others.
Iain MacRury has taught advertising for many years at several institutions in the UK. He is currently Professor of Media and Communications in the Division of Culture Media and Communications at the University of Stirling. Scotland. Many of our students on Film and Media, Journalism, PR, Media Management and Digital Media Communications courses study advertising and a variety of related forms of communication. Iain is currently teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in advertising including an extension module in Singapore. Iain is the author, co-author, and editor of several books, including The Dynamics of Advertising, and two editions of the Routledge The Advertising Handbook.
Dr. Zuzana Říhová is a specialist in Avant-garde and Modernism. She is the author of In the Midst of the Crowd (2016) and has published widely on Czech modernism. She was Head of Czech at Oxford University (2014 – 2018) and a visiting scholar at Columbia University (2018–2019). She is a member of a research team at the Institute of Czech literature, Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. She is also a writer. Her latest novel received great critical acclaim and was nominated for Magnesia Litera award. Zuzana has been serving as a director of the Prague School of Creative Communication since 2021.
